The Classroom
The Montessori Academy of Windsor classroom is laid out in a way that is both soothing and inspiring. The materials are handcrafted and practical for teaching theories in math, language, geography, and history. All the materials provide concrete learning and they are laid out in sequence so that the children can quickly set goals for themselves based on what they hope to achieve.
The focus is the child at work rather than a room cluttered with rules, lessons, and distracting colour. Our vision is to provide an environment of concentration and stimulation thereby creating productive children. The teacher should be found working always at the child's level. If your child has difficulty feeling accepted in a different educational system, our classrooms provide each child an appreciation for their differences. They quickly learn what each other's limits and strengths are and become nurturing thereby bringing out the best in one another. We typically overlap 3 age groups together to create this environment of socialization and learning
Curriculum
The Montessori Academy of Windsor curriculum is based on the public/catholic school boards but it is approached in a very unique way. The children progress as individuals. They set goals and move forward at their own pace with individual instruction along the way.
If an area requires more work we are there to provide it. By the same token children can advance as quickly as they master each successive level of learning. They are not limited to a curriculum that decides how far they can go. It is not uncommon to have 5 year olds reading at a "7 year old level" and 7 year olds who may comprehend math at a "6 year old level".
We must understand each individual's strengths/weaknesses and do our best to provide all the materials available to clarify and further enrich their understanding
